Logitech announced today that they are releasing two new wheel controllers, as well as an optional shifter attachment.

The new wheels ( !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ) seem to up the quality a bit, and the brakes are apparently non-linear, although whether they are load cells or simply have a non-linear spring with G27 internals is yet to be seen.

The MSRP of 499.99 seems to put it firmly between the Thrusmaster T300RS AND T500RS models, but whether the new Logitech wheels with their helical-geared dual motors will provide better feedback than the belt-connected dual motors in the Thrustmaster wheels is yet to be tested, but we can safely assume that the Thrustmaster’s will have the edge, as the technology behind the G29 and G920 seem to be an evolution of the G27, itself no slouch, but outclassed by the two Thrustmaster wheels.

As for the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! (a 59.99 addition), it seems to be Identical to the G27 shifter, albeit without the buttons the G27 possessed.

Logitech has said that the wheels will be available in July, so only then will we be able to acertain what the differences are from the G27 wheel, beyond the Cosmetic ones we can see.

For that cost for the shifter, you may as well get a TH8RS. The G27 shifters break like crazy.

Do I want a PlayStation or an XBox? Gran Turismo 7 (when it comes out) or Forza?

Here I am playing on an old Driving Force wheel.... Honestly I’ve never gotten the appeal of spending a ton of money on sim racing. I’d rather invest in a physical car.

NONE OF THE ABOVE! Dirt Rally!

I was just thinking that when I saw the MSRP. Sheesh, that’s not including a shifter or the stand you’ll have to buy if you don’t have a table that gives you proper steering position. I mean just the wheel, shifter, game and stand you’re almost at $700.

How is the FFB on Dirt Rally now?

Well you can make a stand for under $50, but yeah pretty much $600 for the wheel and shifter is far too much. Especially without moving to a belt drive.

I picked up a G25 a few years ago for not a huge amount (175 CAD used? something like that) and I might grab a G27, as I expect the market to flood a bit once the G29 comes out.

Get a PC (or steam box) and play pCARS and Assetto Corsa!

Yeah, I enjoy sim racing but I don’t want to spend a ton. Next big investment will probably be an oculus rift. Overall I’d rather spend money on autocross and other budget racing though.

Oh boy... Time for shameful secrets. I’ve yet to play Dirt Rally with my wheel. I’ve been in between things so I haven’t had my wheel set up and have only played with an Xbox 360 controller so far. That said I’m a pretty good judge of how a game will feel with a wheel just from using the controller (physics wise, you can’t really guess force feedback) Personally I would never expect a lot as far as force feed back goes from a rally game because you spend a lot of the time with the front wheels really loose. Physics wise though the game feels great though.

I’ve got both and honestly I don’t play either that much. I’m thinking of picking up R Factor 2 since I have not enjoyed the other two too much and RF2 seems to be taking off now.

I need to spend some time inputting setups that other users have come up with, I like how AC feels, especially the laser-scanned n-ring, but it is damn near impossible to not off if you are going hard, and I think some of that is me running stock setups. pCARS doesn’t have quite the feel AC has, but it is far more engaging I think, plus rain is boss.

they are already in the 200$ range in pristine condition, and they can only go down from here.

Yeah that’s the one thing I have my heart set on, look to apex never feels quite right in game when it’s not triggered by you.

Yeah I feel that not including it in wheel pachage basically guarantees that people will just use a different brand, unless they really improved it a lot.

This is the video that sold me on it considering how much I loved the C6R in AC.

That and this video and his review of PCARS make me really want to try RF2.

I have a G27 and those extra buttons on the G29 wheel would be useful. But it isn’t worth it to me to buy a whole new set. I would just buy the wheel and hook it up to me G27 pedals and shifter and call it good.

The pedals are the one part that seemed to actually get some love, other than the buttons the steering wheel seems the same.

If you catch it at the right time, you can get a G27 for ~$180. Still kinda steep, but not so bad.

I like that they’ve added buttons to the steering wheel...Having them all on the shifter like the G27 works ok, but it’s clunky. Probably the biggest problem with the G27, but this doesn’t look like there’s all that much incentive to upgrade otherwise, especially at that price.

Also, I wonder if the G27 shifter would work with this one...seems pretty ridiculous to charge $500 and not even include the shifter.

Just looking at the stock photos, the pedals look exactly the same as the G27 ones to me. Although, idk if they did anything to their mechanics.

Those extra buttons, especially that rotary red one (hopefully it is rotary) would be helpful for me when driving more advanced cars like an Indy car or GT3, but again I would do just as well getting a decent button box or something.

TBH, it does look like they just glued a PS3 controller between the wheel and the paddle shifters.

It does look like it yeah. I bet they just did what everyone does to their brake pedal and installed a progressive spring.
